— midnight, Samam is the Time measurement. One Samam is equal to two Mukurthams. One mukurtham is 1 1/2 hours. So one Samam is 3 hours (1 1/2 x 2=3 hours), One Day is divided into 4 Samam. Similarly one Night is divided into 4 Samam. Hence one has 8 Samams
